The Witcher: the author of the books gives his opinion on Henry Cavill and on the betrayals of his universe by the Netflix series

Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski from The Witcher saga comments on the choice of actor and the adaptation made by Netflix.

The Witcher is a hit on Netflix and a season 2 is coming soon. Witcher Geralt de Riv, played by Henry Cavill, continues his hunt for monsters. Season 1 rather excited us and the creator Lauren Schmidt ensures the scriptwriting continuity from the first to the second. Confidence was anchored from the start: season 2 was ordered before the release of the first.

Something to be impatient about, as we had already been seduced by this new hero of the medieval fantasy universe. The Witcher has benefited fans of the video game and readers of the saga. What about the Netflix adaptation? The first concerned, the creator, answers this question: betrayal or loyalty?

In an interview with the English-language newspaper People, Andrzej Sapkowski is particularly enthusiastic. What delights him the most is the choice of Henry Cavill as an actor. The mutant with white hair sticks to the idea he had of his hero.

“I was more than satisfied with the appearance of Henry Cavill in The Witcher. He’s a real professional. Just as Viggo Mortensen gave his face to Aragorn, Henry gives his face to Geralt – and it will be so forever. ”

The comparison with The Lord of the Rings is flattering for the series, already close (not always in a timely manner) to the inevitable Game of Thrones. The creator therefore seems conquered, and it is not out of narcissism. Andrzej Sapkowski did not participate in the project, and admits infidelities to his original work.
