The Mule
The story of La Mule is used as a pretext to show that it is an individual who is never where he is. A real mule head! It may be easy but true. Indeed, while most spectators are waiting for the next Marvel or DC superhero movie, Clint is having fun staging ordinary American heroes in Sully, American Sniper, 3:17 pm with varying degrees of success.
He had this attitude throughout his career. One of the most striking examples is that of Bird contrasting singularly with his image of racist person, conveyed in the Dirty Harry saga of which he realized certain segments. To return to the film, he even sings the song with more or less light words to explain the mood of Earl giving a funny aspect to this drama. As a filmmaker, he hates to lock himself into the rules of the genre he deals with.
This certainly results from the influence of Leone who had nothing to beat the rules and the American censorship concerning the realization of which he paid homage to the end of Impitoyable, his ultimate and twilight western. Through this road movie, he shows societal excesses in the United States through scenes as well as the diversity of the landscapes encountered on a part of their territory.
On the casting side, he prefers to be loyal by offering a role to Bradley Cooper (American Sniper), Laurence Fishburne (Mystic River), Michael Pena (Million Dollar Baby), not to mention new female recruits Dianne Wiest (A regular Woody Allen ) and Taissa Farmiga (American Horror Story).
History is not revolutionary, if it is confined to the simple fact, even if it is touching. However, it takes on another dimension if the spectator considers that he paints his own portrait, by exposing himself, as a man, with his faults and his forces, through his performance and his staging. . The poster brings out this impression because his face is present in the foreground.
