Amazon Prime Video to celebrate Halloween ahead of time with four Blumhouse films
To celebrate Halloween as it should, despite an already scary 2020, Amazon Prime Video will unveil “Welcome to the Blumhouse”, an anthology of eight thrillers and horror films offered by the famous studio.
While in many ways the year 2020 has had (and continues to have) more reasons to scare us for real than necessary, let’s not hesitate to scare ourselves for fake next Halloween! With this in mind, Amazon Prime Video will offer four horror films – or a simple thriller for some – in October. All four feature films were produced, exclusively for Prime Video, by Blumhouse (Get Out, Whiplash, Invisible Man, Upgrade), Jason Blum’s now famous modern B-series studio. In addition to next month’s four films (featured below), iO9 says four more will be released next year. These eight feature films form part of an anthology called “Welcome to the Blumhouse” and are only connected through the use of themes centered on love or family.
Black Box (October 6)
In this film, Mamoudou Athie (who will appear in the next Jurassic World: Dominion) plays a widowed father suffering from blackouts following an accident. To cure it, he agrees to undergo a unique treatment: thanks to a virtual reality device, he is transported to his subconscious. This kind of hypnosis 2.0 will force him to fight his demons but also to discover heavy secrets.
The Lie (October 6)
More akin to a thriller than a horror film, The Lie centers on the mystery surrounding the death of Joey King’s young friend (Conjuring). Her parents as well as the family of the deceased will try to unravel her to untangle the knot of the story: was it an accident or a murder? And if this is answer B: why? In short, Blumhouse offers us here a classic scenario which will obviously be based on the strength of its twists and turns.
Evil Eye (October 13)
After fatherhood and friendship, love. The brothers Elan and Rajeev Dassani, producing the Scandal and Murder series among others, propose to revisit the theme of the son-in-law rejected by the family with Evil Eye. However, in this film released on October 13, a mystical dimension will be added, borrowing from witchcraft and curse. The feature film will notably be screened by Sunita Mani (GLOW: Glorious Ladies of Wrestling) and Sarita Choudhury (Netflix’s Jessica Jones).
Nocturne (October 13)
After Black Box and its science-fictional appeal, perhaps the most intriguing film of the lot is Nocturne. This film, whose influences recall both Whiplash, Suspiria and Grave but also the myth of Faust, tells about the rivalry between twin sisters within the prestigious Juilliard music school in New York. One of them will come across a diary full of occult and satanic references, which will allow him to become the star of the school.
