Star Wars reportedly found the villain of the next trilogy
Orphaned by its main villains, the Star Wars saga would however have decided the identity of the one who will oppose the Jedi in the future trilogy; it would be Thrawn, a very interesting and under-exploited character from the extended Star Wars universe.
Since its takeover by Mickey’s troops, Star Wars has clearly become Disney’s goose that lays golden eggs, and it’s not about to stop. Those responsible would already have fairly specific plans for what would happen next. And especially with regard to the identity of the next big bad in the saga, a position that remains in power since it was vacated by Kylo Ren and Palpatine. According to Tom’s Guide, the most crestfallen evil chancellor should give way to Thrawn.
This character, best known to early fans, could be a real script goldmine thanks to his dense story, and relatively under-exploited until now. Mitth’raw’nuruodo, real name, was created by Timothy Zahn, author of a trilogy called Legends which largely revolves around this character who is not part of the original universe. So far, his only screen appearance is in the Star Wars: Rebels animated series, where he played the role of the main antagonist for three seasons.
Thrawn and Palpatine, overt style opposition
As a male Chiss, he is unable to use the Force; on the other hand, he is known for his extraordinary qualities in terms of military strategy. Cold, calculating, intelligent and cultivated, he would in any case make a strong opponent for the heroes of the next trilogy. In any case, that would be a hell of a change in a franchise that has always been woven around the battle between Sith and Jedis. Instead, the arrival of this highly charismatic villain may well transform the narrative to make more room for politics and strategy. In any case, that would be good news for anyone who yelled at fan-service when they saw Palpatine’s return. However, it will take some time to get official information. Like many other cine / series works, the next trilogy has already been postponed due to the pandemic.
