Netflix to broadcast sequel to Chicken Run, 20 years after the original
Chicken Run, the cult stop-motion film from Aardman Studios (Wallace & Gromit, Shaun the Sheep), is about to follow. And it is Netflix which will distribute the film worldwide – except in China, where the platform is not present – confirms the streaming giant this Tuesday June 23, 20 years to the day after the release of the original in United States. Production of the feature film is scheduled to start in 2021.
In this suite, on which Aardman studios have been working since 2018, Ginger and Rocky live in a sanctuary without humans and raise a little girl named Molly. They will face a terrible new threat that risks wiping out the existence of their entire species. The film will be directed by Sam Fell, director of The Strange Power of Norman, while Peter Lord, co-director of the first Chicken Run will be executive producer here.
Animation is a genre that Netflix seeks to develop, in a context where competition is intensifying between streaming platforms that target families. Disney + continues to expand internationally, and will be launched in eight additional European countries in September. In the United States, HBO Max has just been launched with the catalogs of Looney Tunes and Cartoon Network, as well as all the films from studio Ghibli.
