Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon is officially in production

The American channel HBO reveals that the prequel series of Game of Thrones is in production and will be launched in 2022.

Based on the star George R.R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood, this first spin-off, set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, tells the story of House Targaryen. House of the Dragon stars Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicante Hightower, Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Rhys Ifans as the Hand of the King, Otto Hightower, and Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon, known as the Sea Serpent, who becomes the Hand of Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen during the Dance of the Dragons. The characters played by Fabien Frankel, Eve Best and Sonoya Mizuno are not yet known.

A shock team behind House of the Dragon for HBO

The prequel series House of the Dragon is co-created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal. The screenplay for the pilot who got the HBO spin-off order was written by Condal. The latter is the co-director of the new television series alongside Game of Thrones veteran Miguel Sapochnik, who will direct the pilot and several additional episodes. Martin, Condal and Sapochnik are executive producers alongside Sara Lee Hess, Vince Gerardis and Ron Schmidt. Greg Yaitanes is co-executive producer. Finally, Yaitanes, Clare Kilner and Geeta V. Patel complete the production team of this show, which currently consists of ten episodes.
