Ghibli: the studio’s first CGI film is revealed in images

The famous Japanese animation studio took a long time to get into CGI. It will soon be done with Aya and the Witch, an animated feature film all in synthetic images carried by the son of Hayao Miyazaki, and whose release is planned this winter in Japan.

After long standing as a resistor in the midst of CGI productions from Pixar, Dreamworks, Disney that ended up going there, Ghibli finally took over the direction of computer graphics. This very first animated film, called Aya and the Witch, is worn by Goro Miyazaki, who is none other than the son of Hayao Miyazaki. The latter will also supervise the project.

Aya and the Witch turns out to be the adaptation of a book by Diana Wynne Jones, an author best known for her novel The Castle of Hurle, which in turn inspired another cult film from the studio: The Traveling Castle. Ghibli’s next feature film is set to tell the story of Earwig, an orphan about to be adopted by a mysterious woman by the name of Bella Yaga. But if we had already heard about this project, Aya and the Witch is revealed this time in pictures! On the menu: a look decidedly different from other Ghibli productions, and a digital turn which seems rather successful. See rather:

Now hope that this project does not take too long to see the light of day in our regions. The release of Aya and the Witch is scheduled for next winter on the Japanese chain NHK, but no broadcast by us has been mentioned. One can nonetheless wonder if the film could not be broadcast on Netflix, since the Japanese studio and the streaming platform seem to have come much closer in recent times. This is of course only speculation at the time of writing.
